INTO THE OKAVANGO (2018)
-National Geogrpahic-
The National Geographic feature film, "Into the Okavango" premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in New York city in 2018. It is the story of African explorers, lead by Dr. Steve Boyes, whose research expeditions fill in vast gaps in scientific knowledge in the wildest and most remote areas of Africa. In order to get the data, they must put their lives in danger.
Over the course of 5 years I travelled on research trips gathering footage for the film, documentaries and publicity. Working from a mokoro, a 20-foot long boat, I followed the team through the wildest landscapes in the Okavango Delta and Angola. We moved, unarmed and unassisted through 300 km of Africa's finest wilderness area and encountered pythons, hyenas, crocodiles, lions, elephants, hippos and a huge array of creatures! Our interactions and encounters were incredible.
Some of the content I used to produce my own documentaries for local TV in South Africa and sell to news outlets such as PBS and CNN. Extreme scenes of a crocodile attacking our mokoros and hunters in the Angolan forests were included in the film!
