50/50 HUMAN NATURE - SABC 2 (2011 - 2016)

Position: Producer/Director of Photography

The longest running show in South Africa with a focus on wildlife and nature conservation, research and science.  Many important stories, that would effect people and protected wildlife in southern Africa, would be broadcast weekly to a huge audience. I produced several documentaries over the years including covering endangered species such as the Cape Parrot, Heaviside Dolphins and Western Leopard Toads.

Cape Parrots (2012)

The Cape Parrot is South Africa's only endemic parrot species and less than 1000 remain. Feather and Beak Disease is haunting the population and Dr. Steve Boyes has made it his life's work to save them!

Into the Okavango Part 1 (2014)

The Okavango Delta in Botswana is the last remaining true wilderness in Southern Africa. I documented the Wildbird Trust's Bird Survey expedition through this wetland wonderland and produced 3 TV shows. This is the first.

Part 2 of the Into the Okavango documentary and we go deeper into the wild on our unarmed and unassisted expedition through the Delta. An unprecedented number of animal encounters occurred including being attacked by a giant crocodile. All captured on film.

The Little Dolphin (2013)

Heaviside Dolphins are the smallest dolphin species in Africa and one of the least known cetacean species globally. I followed research teams in South Africa and Namibia as we studied their behaviour and ecology.

The Tiny Traveller (2014)

The Blue Swallow is the bird most likely to go extinct in South Africa. Habitat loss is the main issue and we travel to KwaZulu Natal to see if we can find any new nests. We discover something remarkable, a blue swallow hatching! This link will be activated after the show airs nationally.

Sharks, Science and Surfers (2012)

Nominated for a S.A.B. Environmental Journalism award in 2012, this documentary covers the scandal that erupted when a young South African surfer was attacked fatally by a Great White in Cape Town. The government and scientists were blamed for chumming close to shore.

Toads in the Road (2011)

The Western Leopard Toad only occurs within a narrow range within the city limits of Cape Town, South Africa. Most of their habitat has been changed so when the rainy season comes they must cross roads to breeding ponds. Luckily for some, volunteers go out on these rainy nights to help the toads reach their destinations.

Chapman’s Peak Tolls (2012)

A luxury office block on a World Heritage Site... on the Table Mountain National Park! Since the planning of this construction, everyone from environmentalists to fishermen to the local communities have been opposed to it.

First Touch (2011)

A show I produced and edited about young kids from a school for the Visually Impaired that hav encounters with wierd and wonderful creatures for the first time!
